Context and site-response in architecture have been investigated in some depth beginning around the 1960s as part of the critical assessment of the universalism of the avant-gardes. However, systematic research into this topic has not continued. The rapid globalization of the Lebenswelt over the last decades has been accompanied by a shift of interest to the spatial and local aspects of human existence. Therefore a fundamental theoretical treatment of site/place, site-specificity and site-response in architecture is overdue.

The public lecture series focuses on three subject areas, each of which will be investigated in the morning programme preceding the graduate and post-doc research workshop.
